"Live at the Kahiki, 1965 " - The Beachcomber Trio
(Dionysus Records - 2010)
A rare gem! A lost recording of the house band at the, now demolished, Kahiki in Columbus, Ohio. These recordings were made in 1965 in the Kahiki during dinner hours. You can hear the bustling dining room chatter in the background. A must-have. Limited release of only 500 LPs. Each LP comes with a free digital download of the album for ipod-ers.
Currently Available & in print but limited to 500 numbered copies
"African Jazz/Jungle Jazz" - Les Baxter
(El Records- released late July 2010)
Arguably two of Baxter's best albums, both presented on a single CD and touted as being digitally remastered! El Records out of the UK put these out! However, African Jazz is currently available by itself as a digitial download from iTunes. But the prospect of both albums on a single CD, and digitally remastered is mouth watering. Baxter releases seem to be starting to see the digital light lately. Hoping for more!
Currently Available & in print
"Ports of Pleasure" - Les Baxter
(Capitol - released 2010)
One of Les Baxter's essentails with a very eastern flavor. Classic baxter with a lush, full orchestra. Available as a digital download only--the STEREO master tapes were used to create a sparkling sound!!
Currently Available & in print
"Space Escapades" - Les Baxter
(Capitol - released 2010/El Records - released 2009)
Not exotica but an essential Baxter recording--highly prized for its album cover. Released on El records in the UK, but in MONO. Recently showed up in July of 2010 on iTunes as a digital download. Only this time the stereo master tapes were used. I highly recommend the download version--its super clean and stereo.
Currently Available & in print

"Exotic Dreamers " - Ethel Azama & Tak Shindo
(Righteous Records - released 2010)
2 classic Exotica LPs presented on a single CD: Tak Shindo "Mganga!" & Ethel Azama "Exotic Dreams". PRO: 2 classics on one CD that are hard to find and expensive to collect. CON: LP's used as source material.
Currently Available & in print

"Hawaiian Sunset, Vol. 2 " - Arthur Lyman
(Essentail Media Group - released 2010)
One of Lyman's best finally available. Liner notes are non-existant but audio is taken from master tapes!
Currently Available & in print

"Hawaiian Shores " - Hawaii Calls
(2010)
Recently released as digital download only. A great dreamy album from the Hawaii Calls collections. However, this release is from an LP source...and seriously scratchy LP at that. Sadly this LP was reissued in the 1990's in Japan only and was from the master tapes. That CD is virtually impossible to find.
currenly available

"Call of the Midnight Sun " - Arthur Lyman
(Essential Media Group - released 2010)
From the master tapes - CD has almost no liner notes

currently available and in print

"Aloha Amigo" - Arthur Lyman
(Essential Media Group - released 2010)
From the master tapes - CD has almost no liner notes
currently available & in print

"Sound of Tiki " (compilation) - produced by Sven Kirsten
(Bear Family - released 2010)
Companion to the groundbreaking "Book of Tiki", this compilation by Sven Kirsten features some material not available anywhere else. Outstanding rare tracks are "Chicken Kona Kai" & "Pieces of Eight" by Paul Page. Liner notes are amazing and worth the price of the CD.
currnetly available & in print

"Studio 102 Essentials " - The Surfmen
(Studio 102 - Released 2010)
Both classic 60's albums from the Surfmen "Hawaii" & "The Sounds of Exotic Island" presented in a single album download. Sourced from the master tapes and has great sound quality.
currently available & in print
