"Live at the Kahiki, 1965 " - The Beachcomber Trio (Dionysus Records - 2010) A rare gem! A lost recording of the house band at the, now demolished, Kahiki in Columbus, Ohio. These recordings were made in 1965 in the Kahiki during dinner hours. You can hear the bustling dining room chatter in the background. A must-have. Limited release of only 500 LPs. Each LP comes with a free digital download of the album for ipod-ers.

"African Jazz/Jungle Jazz" - Les Baxter (El Records- released late July 2010) Arguably two of Baxter's best albums, both presented on a single CD and touted as being digitally remastered! El Records out of the UK put these out! However, African Jazz is currently available by itself as a digitial download from iTunes. But the prospect of both albums on a single CD, and digitally remastered is mouth watering. Baxter releases seem to be starting to see the digital light lately. Hoping for more!

"Ports of Pleasure" - Les Baxter (Capitol - released 2010) One of Les Baxter's essentails with a very eastern flavor. Classic baxter with a lush, full orchestra. Available as a digital download only--the STEREO master tapes were used to create a sparkling sound!!
|
"Space Escapades" - Les Baxter (Capitol - released 2010/El Records - released 2009) Not exotica but an essential Baxter recording--highly prized for its album cover. Released on El records in the UK, but in MONO. Recently showed up in July of 2010 on iTunes as a digital download. Only this time the stereo master tapes were used. I highly recommend the download version--its super clean and stereo.
